spent part of the time vanquishing and the other in wurm....had more fun vanquishing (noob island area, no good loot, but double ss made it worth it to do this weekend) but lost 10 lockpicks (my unlucky title is moving along nicely too).
It was a good idea, now we need the gwen one so I can get my characters to r5 so they get armor faster than 1pt/kill.
(also very happy with my new dsl provider who despite having issues with my old one was able to expedite my change--in one day!!!)

The only reason he, like myself and many others, thinks this is because guildwars started with the simple concept Skill>time

its constantly been moving away from that ever since thanks to WoW converts and what seems to be a changing playerbase. The event was good for many reasons, but it illuminates the fact that anet has moved away from its original model

and FYI, when titles were first introduced I immediately saw guildwars going to hell

LOL - I was glad to take a break from vanquishing with my main and used this weekend as an excuse to get a couple of my other characters further along in the Nightfall story-line as well as powering up their LB/SS skills. I Maxed out titles on 1 character & got a second char up to over 15K on each.

Another nice thing about it was I was able to get these secondary characters some runes for their Heros (poor, neglected characters), which was the icing on the cake!

And the nicest part of the thing was that doing that run was so easy, almost everyone I ran with had a laid back, relaxed attitude and there was fun being had by all. Heck, I even started a bidding war for a yellow dye that dropped, it got up to 100K+20 ectos! (I know, kinda silly - but we were having fun) Only ran into one jerk the whole time. But, that one only lasted 1 run, so it wasn't a problem.

QFT!

This should be slammed right into the face of all bosses at ANet to remind them.

It seems they really abandoned their old idea and now cater to a group of grinders that cannot afford the monthly fee for a standard grinder MMO.

After the first wave of titles we got more and more ridiculous titles: Legendary Defender of Ascalon (totally unnatural and silly deathlevelling), Sweet Tooth, Drunkard, Faction grind... wow.

If this is their direction for GW2, well, they can scrap their initial fanbase except some die-hard PvPers that still believe PvP is getting to become so much better in GW2, a game that seems to be focused on re-inventing the standard grind MMO (!).

The new kind GW player seems to be nothing else but a standard grind roleplaying MMO gamer that just does not want to pay a fee.

Thanks to A-Net for this weekend.

I like the KOABD track but I don't like/want to just play one character.

This weekend has made it possible to quickly get 2 more titles maxed on my secondary KOABD character.... I am quite near to People Know Me on two seperate ones thanks to this.

The process of repeating the farm run isn't massively enjoyable but I did it in 8 man parties, and got talking to other random players which was a nice change. Overall I've got 50 more items identified for my Wisdom track as well.

Anyone that didn't like the idea of the grind or the event had the option to not participate. So ignore these people.

Guild Wars. From release and up until about a year ago. The only "grind" before that was that one had to unlock weapons and elite skills in PvE for use in PvP. That's ridiculously mild compared to the present title-insanity.

I used to love GW. I'm presently liking it less and less, because every single decision by ANet now is taking GW in what I consider to be the wrong direction: forced grouping; grind; imbalanced and buggy PvE skills; grind; encouraging elitist jerkery; grind; titles with in-game benefits; grind; separating PvE and PvP; grind; "increasing difficulty" just by giving mobs more armor and hitpoints and double damage; grind; grind; grind.

About the only bad decisions left to make would be to remove the level cap, remove the damage limits on weapons, and remove the henches/heroes.
ANet is apparently saving those bad decisions for GW2.

Why would I be happy about these crappy decisions when ANet had the best MMORPG on the market?

Maybe they're catering to the WoW crowd, I don't know. What I do know is that I hated WoW and liked GW, and at the rate this is going I wont be buying GW2.

Succesful? Nah. Friday: Work. Saturday: Work then staff party. Sunday: So hung over that I could not stand, sit or play computer. So it was kind of an epic fail for me, but I'm glad so many enjoyed it. Cheers!

The truth is: Without the titles i would have dropped GW long ago. PvP gets stale after a minute or five. If i want fun PvP, i play Street fighter2 or Warcraft3. All i ever wanted from GW was a MMO with no fees. The PvP focus was initially a bit of a letdown, because on line PvP tends to be both cokie cutter and elitist. It got better because PvE got greatly improved since Prophecies.

I managed to max LB for three characters starting from almost nothing this weekend.

My friends and alliance mates were teaming up like never before to do the farming for great rares (somebody got an r9 elemental sword!), tomes galore, lots of exp and just good conversations! (grinding may be boring, but when you play with 4-5 other buddies it's actually very fun stuff)

Even the last moments before the end of the event when my friend and I were blitzing the runs as fast as we could with the "Beat the Clock" theme playing in the background.

Lotta laughs, a few memories, it was truly a great event compared to previous ones like wintersday, even a random weird occurance with the favor counter to add to the experience!

Was a fun weekend, didnt get to do as much as I would have liked but got up to about 36k. As for the people that cant keep from the QQ, go play in the street, it was fun, the reset of favor, big whoop, we have almost constant favor anyway

I enjoyed the event although the monotony started to wear on me towards the end. Chatting with others while getting golds, tomes, and opening chests was fun.

This probably belongs in another thread but it's come up here so I'll bite. To all those who are complaining about GW becoming a grindfest: How has the optional grind in GW affected you? How are you affected by the fact that others are grinding for titles?

And...before titles were introduced, everyone else thought GW was going to hell, because there was precisely nothing to do in PvE once you beat the game. Except farm. Yay farming.

Turns out ANet's original vision of "PvP is the endgame" didn't fly with some people. This is what happens; more content for people who are hooked and don't want to put GW down (also in ANet's original plan), but don't want to go on to PvP.

Heck, if you haven't put down the game after you beat it in between chapters, you're not following ANet's original "vision" either, so you're being a tad hypocritical by condemning one segment of the population for spoiling the original concept of GW...yet you're not exactly following it yourself.

ya, that was really a succesfull event...

would have been only better, if it would have been instead of doubl > tripple points XD

I dunno.. for SS you have so much good farm points to raise extreme quick to max, you receive even more ss points from buff, then from lb ..

8 vs. 6 > 16 vs 12.

this difference makes a huge thing.

i made in the time i farmed whiel the even only like 5 k LB points, BUT therefore 35k SS points >.> amazing difference eh ?

Imo the undeads in desolation should give instead of SS points LB points ...
it just takes without such an event like this one too long to get 50k lb points...without playing Hard Mode ...

In NM you get only like 1-2 LB points per kill, in Hm it are 6.
say you farm in nm at 2 points per kill, this would mean it takes like 25000 kills, before you reach max ... at 100 kills runs this would need 250 runs with 100 kills for 2 points per kill in NM.. at 1 point per kil also 500 runs with 100kills a run...imo insane

and all this, only for some more damage vs. some kinds of enemies and a damage reduction that makes not much a thread in HM, when you get spiked there...all this effort.. for only 2 lightbringer skills, from which is even only 1 realy useful and the elite total useless

god, how much do i wish me, that anet gives us more lightbrigner skills for higher lb ranks...then it makes also more sense to make all this effort of grinding 50k lb points

also more lb skills would balance more the doa area in hard mode..some places with their insane enviromental effects in HM are really ridiculous unbalanced, like that one that raises energy cost by 40% and the arms using the zephyr ghost, raising energy cost up even further by additional +25% to a whopping +65% energy cost of skills...what destroys any player builds e management, other then maybe the ones of high expertise rangers ... which can at least counter the 40% enviromental effect with having ecxpertise at least at 10 to have normal energy cost and receive only the effect of the zephyr spirit.

However ...

I hope to see soon also events like:

Double/Tripple Alcohol/Sweettooth Effect.

So meaning u eat soem sweets that usually give only 1 point, while the event they would brign then 2 or 3 points.

Alcohol counts then for every minutes twice or triple, so when the minute would raise up usually by +1 minute, while event it are then +2 or 3 minutes per minute
-------

or a Double/ Triple Lucky/ Unlucky event.

letting lockpicks count double or triple points and also increasing their drop chance by double or triple everywhere and lettign them also drop at normal rate in normal mode.
While this event drop also then from monsters special "Golden" Four Leaf Clovers and Broken Mirror consumeables, that when you use them..you receive a certain amount of points direct to the title.

When you use a golden 4-LC, then you receive for example 250 points to the Lucky Title, when you use a Broken Mirror, then go 50 Points to the Unlucky Title
-------------

Gamer Event ...
somethign that really annoys me of anet.. why don#t they do every now and then some weeks ends, where we can play the minigames like costume brawl, snowball, roller beetle racing, dragon arena and so on... so that we can collect gamer Points ....

it really sucks balls, that we can play these ever only for short time every x months, when special ingame events are there, like halloween, or winterday and so on.... so wil nobody ever max the gamer title ..

for what have this dumb title at all, when anet won't enable any player ever to max it cause of all these stupid borders which made out of this title a "you will never be able to max it- one"

I personally played as muhc minigames at events I could and ive after nearly soon 3 years now only god damn cheap 370 gamer points >.>
wtf does Anet believe..how long we players should play GW..before we should max this one title eh ????? 10 years oO >.<??? absolute ridiculous anet ... and not tolerateable/acceptable in any way imo...people want get this title done, before they are old grandpas and mas >.> and maybe GW 10 is released ...omfg

really anet, shouldn't be too much wished to grant us every say 2-3 weekends 1 gamer weekend say in this example scheme

weekend 1: Double/Triple Title Point Event
weekend 2: Gamer Event
weekend 3: Double Drops/Gold Event or Special Event other event that has nothing to do about drops, titles or so
weekend 4: Gamer Event
---------------

A Reduced Prices Event....would be really awesome.
where for example the prices of materials and rare materials are reduced by 25-50%...or where Elite Armor will cost lesser, or weapons like tormented/destroyer or whatever at weapon seller npcs's will cost lesser...

where lesser then 15 gems of are are needed to create an armbrace of truce.. say gets reduced for exampel for this event to 10 gems each required
that would ba such an god damn awesome event, especially for all the casual gamers and perma poor ones ^^
--------------

minipet event, where the chances will get raised to receive mallyx and ghostly heroes, but where also players will receive small chances to receive one of the really rare minipets, stuff like:

polar bear, kanaxai, grawl, naga, oni, shiroken, zhed, vizu, island guardian, panda, greased lightning, and yeti ...

all these ones are still absolutely ridiculous way tooooooo rare....

absolutely no minpet should cost unsums like 500 ectos+ or even far far far more..absolutekly no minipet at all should imo cost more than 100 Platin...but because they are so ridiculous rare.. peoples which want to become the next Dagobert ducks can naturally wish prices, whatever they want..when they belong to the luky ones, which have one of the extreme rare things and its undedicated ... and that sucks...

all minipets should be collectable by all players...when you just want not make such an event or give us more of by by for example magazine promotions...then simple give us more quests like that one for the black moa chick ...

these kind of quests make at least alot of fun and people have to work thne for their rare minipets, counted above.

Example Quest:

For Minipet Oni

Quest starts in Cantha, you have to talk with the Emperor of cantha, to receive the quest, after beating the game once.
The quest will lead you then first into Kaineng's Downtown, where you have to search for the hideout of that obsidian assassin clan or how they were called.
The point is, there will be no green point marker that wil show you the way.
there will be only some randomous hidden things which will reveal some riddles to the players, which need to be solved to receive information of how you have to go to find the hideout. (what will be a new tiny instanced outpost later)
There the player has then to talk with the leader of the assassin clan, to receive the information about, that they had an intruder, which has stolen something very important from them and due to the fact, that they have helped you once, they now await in regard of that, that you will help them this time on catching the intruder and getting back the stolen stuff. (some for them sacred martial arts scrolls for example which is their secrets over generations)

So you have to catch that thief now, but first you need more information about that thief, so you have to travel across the continents from where the thief comes from...the thief lost something of his clothes, while fleeing, so you use these now to find out for example, that thse clothes come from vaabi, after you went with them to a certain armor npc in say tyria.
In vaabi then you find out, that someone has set of some gold on your head to stop your investigations..so you have to flee out of vaabi, because lots of assassins are hunting you now for the money reward.
you have to go undercover now into the assasin clan, which hunts your head. to get on the information, who is it, who set out a reward for your head, by getting an assassin somehow isolated from all others and get him then drunk ^^ so that he will answer your questions without problems *g*.

then you kill that sin and have to sneek out of the place, before their find out, that they have an intruder (you get a time limit) and you have to flee out of that hideout which is concepted like a littled dungeon then in a similar wise, like the metal gear solid games ^^ silent and deadly ^^ muahahah
now where you know, whio set the price for your head, you can get information at the hideout of the obsidian clan, where to find that guy. together with the clan you plan then an assault in the night to kill the guy in vabbie.

once your in, you will be awaited...the obsidian assassin will defend for you the guardians, while you have to stop the thief, that he will give the sacred scroll to a bringer of darkness, what the thief has done only, in hope to become more powerful as reward for fulfilling the pact with the demon and bringing him ,what the demon wanted.
The brigner of Darkness will transform the thief then into an Oni Boss and the player has to kill then both to finally end the quest.
After killing both bosses, the oni and the Bringer, you receive the Sacred Scroll as Quest item, which you can then trade in at the hideout of the obsidian assasin clan for an Oni Minipet

So, such similar quests could be sure done too for all the other ridiculous extreme rae minipets.

having 4 million+ players and having only of a minpet like several hundreds ingames is imo really ridiculous rare ....
---------

i'm sure, there are even alot more of possible things for weekend events

This just reinforces the idea though - it's an MMO. All MMOs evolve, all developers change their ideas, and not one of them force you to play. This isn't meant to be a really harsh rebuttal, but when i say "just leave" i mean "they aren't forcing you to play." If you love Mario when you're 10, but hate it now, will you play it? No.

Mentions of elitism have no real point in this thread. This game has always had elitism. Remember Prophecies, trying to PvP and not finding any remotely competitive group due to rank? PvE elitism existed back then, but i suppose your point is that you can show your titles in a town.

Think of it another way - it's a goal. MMOs always work best when you pace yourself and become goal-oriented. Most of these titles are just reinforcement of what the game used to be - a major farm - except now they direct your farming experience, or rather give incentive to farm.

After dropping the game for two years (yes, WoW, don't ask, and don't play it), the only thing i've seen changed that i absolutely do not like is the change to favor. Making it title-based was a pretty poor idea, as that discouraged PvP. ANet should switch it back to a regional PvP-based setup.

cmon that was NOT an event, just a "x2" inserted in some coding for 2 days....
ANet just turned those easy titles into quickies, that's all
